Harrison Captures 3 Individual Titles

Harrison finishes in third place and sees individual success at the Cobb County Championships.

Harrison’s Hoyas batted .750 in Saturday’s championship finals of the U.S. Army Cobb County Invitational at Sprayberry High School, capturing championships in three of the four weight classes in which they were entered. In the 130-pound match that was halted numerous times due to a persistent bloody nose by McEachern’s Jordano Figueroa, Hoya Will Mifflin kept his concentration and emerged with a 3-1 decision to run his season’s record to 31-6. At 135, Anthony Fiacco, a county runnerup last year, pinned Wheeler’s Wysmark Chaves in 2:30 to improve his record to 37-4. Hoya 285-pounder Jake Shumpert survived an early scare in which Kell’s Jordan Chambers took him down forcefully and appeared to have a chance at pinning before officials ruled …

Harrison Wrestling Sends Seniors Off Victorious

Harrison defeated Allatoona in a dual that would come down to the last wrestler.

Harrison High School’s wrestling team faced off against the Allatoona Buccaneers Wednesday in a dual that would come down to the last wrestler. On what was Senior Night at Harrison, the Hoyas held off Allatoona to win the dual 33-32 and earn the Stonecutters Dual Trophy. After a loss by 112-pound Hoya, Patrick Curry, his teammate Theresa Bernard would take the mat against Buccaneer Garrett McGuire in the 119-pound weight class. Bernard, a senior and the first ever female varsity wrestler in Harrison High School’s history, had to grapple with McGuire the entire six minutes but came away with a 9-2 victory. Hoyas' Deuce White, Anthony Fiacco, and senior Will Mifflin all pinned their opponents in the first period of their respective matches. …

Harrison Takes Third in 4-AAAAA Region

Redemption and last minute drama lift Hoyas.

Hillgrove wrestler Robert Boyette had Harrison’s Patrick Curry on his back in the second period with a chance to take third place in the region, but the whistle blew to end the period. Curry held out as Harrison won 28-26. The first round of the 4-AAAAA region championship saw the Hoyas taking on cross-town rival North Cobb. The match started out with Theresa Bernard pinning James Allen, and the Hoyas never looked back. It seemed every time the Warriors had momentum in a match, their counterpart would pull off a reverse and they would get pinned. Harrison took the dual 58-19 and would face the Kennesaw Mountain Mustangs. The dual featured the second and third ranked teams in the region, Harrison and Kennesaw Mountain respectively. When two…

Harrison Wrestling Falls Short Against Hillgrove

Harrison's wrestling team had a chance at first place in the region but Hillgrove proved to be too much.

Harrison High School's wrestling team hosted Hillgrove on Wednesday in a battle for first place in the region. Harrison was only down one point heading into the final match, but a pin by Hawk grappler Dylan Boyette sealed the win and first place in the region for Hillgrove. The duals started out in the 103-pound weight class in which Matt Mazza was pinned. In the 130-pound weight class, Harrison's Deuce White took his opponent Russell Scott into the third period. This emotional match was very heated, and both wrestlers fought hard. But it was White who came away with a 7-3 victory. Harrison's Will Mifflin was next in the 135-pound weight class. He had a chance late in the third period to pin his opponent, Tyler Ray, but Ray squirmed loose …
