City Council Addresses Citizen Concerns

The city council of Kennesaw addressed some concerns about the construction on Jiles Road.

The Kennesaw City Council on Monday night addressed a citizen's concerns about the ongoing construction on Jiles Road.   Bill Maxson expressed his dissatisfaction with road construction on Jiles Road.   He alleged that a new bus ramp has actually narrowed the road next to his home despite the fact that current construction is intended to widen it.  Maxson also questioned whether designers of the project had actually walked the land they were developing.  City Manager Steve Kennedy assured him that they did.  Maxson also said he was frustrated that he never received notice of a meeting concerning the Jiles Road project.  The council asked him to resubmit his email address to the city. Construction Begins in Final Phase of Jiles Road Expansion

The third and final phase of the $23 million road expansion is projected to be completed in two years.

Construction intended to relieve traffic congestion by widening Jiles to a four-lane road entered its third and final phase Monday. Workers and heavy landscaping equipment will soon be seen tearing up the area between Baker Road and Highway 41, the last stretch of road to be renovated over the next two years. Project History The project in its entirety was first placed before the City Council of Kennesaw around 1996, according to Mayor Mark Mathews. Since then, it has undergone several phases of approval and review, until it was ultimately granted funding through the 2005 SPLOST. The bill is projected to settle around $23 million by the time construction is completed on July 18, 2013. This final phase will make up $11 million of the total…

Kennesaw Officials Present Plans to Expand Jiles to Four-Lane Road

City officials and workers meet with citizens to discuss the $11 million expansion of Jiles Road.

Update: Construction is set to begin Monday, July 18. -------------------------------------------------- The City Council of Kennesaw held a work session Thursday to discuss a large and expensive city project intended to ease traffic congestion on Jiles Road. The project, which has undergone a number of redesigns, has drawn both praise and criticism from the citizens of Kennesaw. The project aims to ease congestion by expanding Jiles Road from a two-lane to a four-lane road. The next phase of the construction is projected to cost about $11 million and estimated to take about two years to complete. Cobb District 1 Engineer Mike Wright spoke first, detailing the proceedings of the project for about 40 citizens who attended the meeting. …
