Ribbon Cutting for Swift-Cantrell Park Wellness Station Postponed

It was to be held Friday, April 19.

The ribbon cutting for the Life University Wellness Station at Swift-Cantrell Park scheduled for Friday, April 19 at 11 a.m. has been postponed due to an inclement weather forecast. A ribbon cutting event on Friday, April 19 at 11 a.m. will mark the official opening of the new Life University wellness station at Swift-Cantrell Park in Kennesaw. Setzler Honors Kennesaw's Thrash

He was cited for devoting innumerable hours of time and energy to the betterment of the community.

Kennesaw Councilmember Bill Thrash was recognized and commended on his outstanding accomplishments as a public servant in a House of Representatives Resolution presented by State Representative Ed Setzler during the April 1 meeting of the Kennesaw City Council. Thrash’s distinguished record of service includes serving a Mayor Pro Tem, past president of the Cobb Municipal Association, and president of the 3rd district’s West Region of the Georgia Municipal Association. The city will conduct the final public hearing on the proposed revisions to Kennesaw's solid waste ordinance.

A special called meeting of the Kennesaw City Council is planned for 6 p.m. tonight, followed by the regular Wednesday work session at 6:05 p.m. During the work session, which will be held at City Hall, 2529 J.O. Stephenson Ave. NW., the city will conduct the final public hearing on the proposed revisions to Kennesaw's solid waste ordinance. The anti-scavening revisions are part of an effort to reduce thefts from residential garbage cans. Kennesaw's Mayor Pro-Tem Accepts National Appointment

Jeff Duckett will serve on the Small Cities Council.

Kennesaw Councilmember Jeff Duckett has accepted an appointment as a member of the National League of Cities (NLC) Small Cities Council for 2013. The council is made up of NLC member cities that have a population of less than 50,000. Members work to insure that the interests of small communities are reflected in NLC’s overall policies. The council provides a forum for sharing ideas and best practices among smaller communities and meets twice a year as well as by conference call if needed. “I’m looking forward to connecting with the representatives of other small cities to learn about the challenges and issues they are facing,” said Duckett. “Being more well informed will help me be a better advocate for the policies, programs, and …

Killingsworth Appointed to National Committee

He'll serve on the university communities council, which discusses the opportunities and challenges of living in a college town.

Kennesaw Councilmember Tim Killingsworth has accepted an appointment as a member of the National League of Cities University Communities Council for 2013. Members of the council discuss problems and opportunities involving economic development, transportation, housing and neighborhood concerns, and sustainability which are unique to university communities. The group meets several times a year as well as by conference call if needed. “The growth of Kennesaw State University offers us many opportunities as well as a few challenges,” said Killingsworth. “I’m looking forward to trading experiences and hearing the success stories of other university communities in similar situations. Kennesaw's Citizen Soldier Honored

Mayor Mark Mathews presented the award to Councilmember Tim Killingsworth.

Councilmember Tim Killingsworth was recognized on March 1 as a "citizen soldier" for his service to the country and his community at the Hearts for Heroes event held at the Strand Theatre in Marietta. The annual event is hosted by the Marietta Museum of History and its purpose is to celebrate, honor and remember the selflessness and courage of local service men and women. All proceeds benefitted the museum. Kennesaw's Jenkins Appointed to National Council on Youth

The councilmember was selected based upon his demonstrated commitment to issues involving young people and families.

Kennesaw Councilmember Bruce Jenkins has accepted an appointment as a member of the National League of Cities (NLC) Council on Youth, Education and Families for 2013. The Council includes local elected officials as well as national policy experts and youth leaders from large and small cities and state municipal leagues. The Council’s role is to oversee and support the work of the NLC’s Institute for Youth, Education and Families (YEF). Jenkins was selected based upon his demonstrated commitment to issues involving young people and families.
