Rezoning for Student Housing Development Approved

The City Council heard public comments on rezoning requests for Phase II of the U Club on Frey complex.

The Kennesaw City Council convened Monday night and authorized an ordinance which would allow expansion of the U Club on Frey student apartment and townhome complex. Planners and Engineers Collaborative submitted the rezoning request allowing them to proceed with Phase II of the project, a purpose built student housing development complementary to the existing units at 3995 Frey Road. The council also authorized a variance request to increase the maximum building height to 55 feet and the density of units to about 21 per acre. Abington Green Homeowners' Association President David Reed said the number of apartment units is too high to accommodate the number of students that will be parking at the complex. Mixed Use Student Housing Project Underway

The Sanctuary at Kennesaw is scheduled for completion by the fall 2013 semester.

Kennesaw officials announced that a new multi-use student housing project that will serve Kennesaw State students and provide shuttle service to and from the university is ready to proceed and scheduled for completion by the fall 2013 semester. The Sanctuary at Kennesaw wil occupy a recently-purchased 23.8-acre tract of land at the intersection of Cherokee and McCollum, according to a release. The development will include housing for 850 students as well as the Shops at Sanctuary, a planned 25,000-square-foot retail project. Spearheaded by Mark Randall and John Long of South City Partners, the development team also includes CIMA Management and Carlyle Realty Partners. This story is a bit misleading. This is not KSU sponsored/owned student housing. South City Partners is not contracted by KSU. The Sanctuary at Kennesaw is designed to appeal to students, but is open to anyone, including KSU students. It is an apartment complex, similar to The Lofts of Kennesaw or U Club on Frey, that hopes to take advantage of KSU's enrollment boom. The Sanctuary is not part of …   more ›
