University earns spot in top 100 among large public U.S. colleges by online college financial site.

Kennesaw State was named one of the top 100 “Most Affordable Large Public Colleges” in the U.S. by AffordableCollegesOnline.org, a website for prospective college students and their parents. “The inclusion in this listing, along with Kennesaw State’s other recent top national rankings of our academic programs, solidifies the value that the university offers,” said Kim West, associate vice president for Enrollment Services at Kennesaw State. “The affordability of our university is just one aspect that makes KSU a sensible choice for many students in Georgia.” College costs have increased more than 450 percent in the past 25 years, nearly five times the rise in wages, according to AffordableCollegesOnline.org. $50K Bond Set for Hit-and-Run Suspect

William Wilson Heaton Jr. faces six charges in connection with the Feb. 16 hit-and-run that critically injured a former Kennesaw State University student.

Bond was set at $50,000 this morning for the alleged hit-and-run driver accused of injuring a former Kennesaw State University student. William Wilson Heaton Jr., 22, of Rydal must relinquish his driver’s license, abstain from drinking alcohol, and remain under house arrest from 9 p.m. until 7 a.m. each day, according to the Athens Banner-Herald. But before Heaton can be fitted with an ankle monitor, Athens-Clarke County Magistrate Court Associate Judge Benjamin Makin said Heaton must find a place in Athens-Clarke or Oconee counties to live, the Banner-Herald reported. Suspect Surrenders in Hit-and-Run Case

William Wilson Heaton surrendered to Clarke County authorities Wednesday night after arrest warrants were executed for him.

The man accused in last month's hit-and-run that's left a former Kennesaw State University student in critical condition has surrendered to law enforcement. William Wilson Heaton, Jr., 22, of Rydal surrendered himself to the Clarke County Sheriff's Office and was booked into the Clarke County Jail on Wednesday evening. He has been charged with hit-and-run, driving under the influence, serious injury by vehicle, failure to maintain lane, reckless driving, and open container, according to Athens Clarke County Police. A bond hearing has been scheduled for 8:30 a.m. today in Clarke County Superior Court. Arrest Warrants Issued in Hit-and-Run

Former Kennesaw State University student Emily Bowman is recovering at Athens Regional Medical Center.

Arrest warrants have been issued for a Bartow County man accused of running over and critically injuring a former Kennesaw State University student last month. Athens-Clarke County Police have taken warrants out for William Wilson Heaton Jr. 22, of Rydal, and have charged him with hit and run, driving under the influence, serious injury by vehicle, failure to maintain lane, reckless driving and open container. The charges stem from the Feb. 16 incident in which Heaton allegedly struck 19-year-old Emily Bowman with a red Mazda pick-up truck as she walked along Oak Street. Bowman, a Woodstock High School graduate, was in Athens to celebrate the birthday of a friend. Bowman has remained hospitalized in critical condition at Athens Regional …

Emily Bowman Opens Eyes, Could Soon Start Breathing On Her Own

The condition of the 19-year-old former Kennesaw State University student continues to improve as she recovers in an Athens hospital.

A former Kennesaw State University student from Woodstock who was hit by a truck in an alleged hit-and-run incident last month in Athens opened her eyes for the first time. According to the Bows for Bowman Facebook page, Emily Bowman opened her eyes around 9:30 p.m. Thursday night.  "She opened her eyes on her own and blinked a few times like she was trying to see us," her uncle Neal Bowman wrote. "It lasted about 30 seconds to a minute and really excited her dad and I." Bowman's uncle also said the doctor is allowing Bowman to breathe a little more on her own and eventually would like to take her completely off the ventilator.  Bowman has been in critical condition at Athens Regional Medical Center since she was allegedly hit by a man …

Pickup Truck in Hit-and-Run Registered to Cartersville Man

Former Kennesaw State University student Emily Bowman remains in a coma at Athens Regional Medical Center.

The red Mazda pickup truck that authorities located shortly after a former Kennesaw State University student was critically injured in an Athens hit-and-run accident is registered to a 22-year-old Cartersville man, according to a story in the Athens Banner Herald.  Neither the man nor his parents are cooperating with the Athens Clarke County Police Department, the story says. His mother lives in Watkinsville and father in Lawrenceville. Also, police found a bottle of liquor inside the truck, the story says, and empty beer cans in the truck bed. As authorities investigate a hit-and-run that critically injured a former Kennesaw State University student, the mother of the 19-year-old victim said just before noon today that her daughter continues to have bleeding and swelling around her brain. Just after 3 a.m. Saturday morning, Emily Bowman of Woodstock was walking in the grass when a 1997 red Mazda pick up truck traveling eastbound on Oak Street left the roadway, hit her, then fled the scene, according to an accident report and a media release from the Athens Clarke County Police Department.
