Congressional Democrats say the firearm legislation set to be proposed next month won’t include a ban on assault weapons. What would you think of any legislation that left out such a ban?
United States senators next month will consider firearm legislation that may not be as loaded as some would hope. The Associated Press reported Tuesday that the gun legislation to be debated next month will not include a ban on assault weapons. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, said that including such a ban would reduce the votes needed to overpower the will of Republicans aiming to keep the Senate from considering the matter. California Sen. Dianne Feinstein is expected to push an amendment focused on banning military-style weapons, the AP reported, though the Democrat’s proposal does not seem to have enough support behind it. Some of sought a ban on assault weapons in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting in …

When President Barack Obama takes the oath of office today, he will place his hand on a Bible that an Acworth man restored. Gordon Ponsford contracted with the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change to prepare King's "traveling" Bible for the president's swearing-in ceremony, which falls on the same day as the federal holiday that honors King, according to the Marietta Daily Journal. Ponsford fixed some of the leather on the Bible, which had gotten loose. King used the Bible as a young preacher, according to the Associated Press. "We know our father would be deeply moved to see President Obama take the oath of office using his Bible," King's children said in a statement provided by the inaugural committee. "His …

The representative of Georgia’s 11th district discussed the economy, gay marriage, Obamacare and this year’s presidential race Monday night.
On the heels of President Barack Obama's stated support of gay marriage, Congressman Phil Gingrey, R-Marietta, addressed the issue during a town-hall meeting Monday night at Mount Paran Christian School in Kennesaw. “I don’t like the secularism that’s occurring in this country one bit and I think it is incumbent upon those of us [that] stand strong, to stand very strong, in regard to that and say ‘look, Billy and I believe that marriage is a sacrament,’” Gingrey said. “I’m not ashamed to say that, and I won’t be ashamed to say that, and I hope our nominee on my side of the aisle will not back away from saying that and stand strongly.” Gingrey, who is up for reelection this fall, said he will continue to “stand strong for Christian, …

I agree that there are other ways that people are being killed, but a bigger number is by gun. Unless you include planes flying into buildings. But that's terrorism. But the last time I looked, having and making bombs is illegal. Guns are not. The kids at Columbine were making bombs and I think they set a couple of them off, but everybody that died did so by gun. And Lowell, the only solution I …   more ›
