A Cobb County grand jury has indicted a former sheriff's deputy from Douglasville on charges of rape, sexual assault against persons in custody, violation of oath by public officer, and other charges. In a warrant, Cobb authorities alleged that 51-year-old Alvin Blake Sutherland made physical contact with an unamed female inmate at the Cobb jail on Jan. 11. He was fired from his job and arrested Jan. 18. Two girls at the Devereux Georgia Treatment Network in Kennesaw are accused of sexually assaulting another teenage resident at the facility.
Two teenage girls at Kennesaw's Devereux Georgia Treatment Network were arrested last Friday on felony aggravated sexual battery charges, according to The Marietta Daily Journal. The two suspects, Emonaysia Lydeana Banton of Covington, 17, and another female under the age of 17, are accused of sexually assaulting another female resident under the age of 18 on Feb. 5. According to a warrant obtained by the MDJ, Banton and the underage suspect allegedlly took off the victim's clothes and used a pencil wrapped with tissue paper during the assault. A little more than two weeks after a Cobb County deputy was arrested in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a female inmate, a second deputy has been accused of the same thing. An internal investigation initiated after the Jan. 18 arrest of Alvin Blake Sutherland uncovered more alleged misconduct involving another deputy, according to WSB-TV. A Cobb County deputy from Douglasville has been accused of sexually assaulting a female inmate, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. A warrant alleges Deputy Alvin Blake Sutherland, 51, made physical contact with an unamed female inmate at the Cobb jail on Jan. 11. Sutherland is charged with aggravated sodomy, aggravated sexual battery, sexual assault by a member of law enforcement, and violation of oath of public office, according to the report. Arrest records indicate that Sutherland remains in the Douglas County jail. Bond is expected to be set at $100,000, according to the AJC.
