Expo to Showcase Cobb Businesses

The free event drew more than 1,600 people in 2012.

Learn about some of the businesses in your own backyard, Cobb. The Cobb Business-to-Business Expo, a free event that drew more than 1,600 people in 2012, is scheduled for 3 p.m. on May 16 at the Cobb Galleria Centre. This year, the expo will feature former Atlanta Braves player Javy Lopez, who will sign autographs in the LOUD Security Systems booth. LOUD is just one of more than 150 local businesses that will showcase their products and services at the expo. Other exhibitors include Keep it in Cobb, which encourages residents to buy local. Take a look at recent health inspection scores at local restaurants.

Each item on an inspection form has a point value ranging from 1 to 9 points, with violations deducting points from a best possible score of 100. A sample inspection form is attached. Higher points are taken for items with higher risk to cause illness, while repeat violations take even more points. Letter grades assigned are A for totals of 100 to 90 points, B for 89 to 80, C for 79 to 70, and U for less than 70.

Paddy’s Pub and Eatery Brings Irish Cuisine to Kennesaw

Take a closer look at Kennesaw's Irish pub and its owner Amber Vlcek, and tell us what you think of Paddy's Pub and Eatery.

Paddy’s Pub and Eatery has been in business since December 2009. Owner Amber Vlcek used to own several Italian restaurants and is hoping to open more Paddy's in the future. “I named the place after my mom who was born in England and came over after World War II as a war bride,” Vlcek said. “Her dad was from Ireland. I also opened on her birthday.” The menu includes Irish and English recipes and includes a Traditional Irish Breakfast, Homemade Bread Pudding, Corned Beef and Cabbage, Lamb Stew, Fish & Chips, Sausage Rolls and Corned Beef Rolls. Kennesaw Resident Wins 'Cupcake Wars'

Patricia Katopes, the owner of Patty Cakes Cupcakes in West Cobb, is the second baker in the county this year to take the crown on the Food Network show.

The owner of a West Cobb cupcake shop defeated three other masters of the sweet treats to win the episode of the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars that aired Sunday.  Being a contestant on the show “was the hardest thing I’ve ever done,” Patricia Katopes, the owner of of Patty Cakes Cupcakes on Due West Road, told the Marietta Daily Journal. “It was very intense. It was a surreal experience.” Katopes, who earned the title of Miss Atlanta in 1989, held a viewing party for the show Sunday featuring 700 of her cupcakes, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. On each episode, four bakers from across the U.S. compete in three rounds of challenges, with one contestant eliminated each round by judges Candace Nelson, owner of Sprinkles Cupcakes, …
