BOC Upholds License Review Board Decisions

The Cobb County Board of Commissioners listened to an hour and a half of testimony on Tuesday morning.

After spending about an hour and a half listening to testimony and arguments on Tuesday morning, the Cobb County Board of Commissioners voted to uphold the decisions by the county's License Review Board in two matters. The board voted unanimously to maintain a 30-day suspension levied on the Texaco Food Mart on Cobb Parkway after employee Sujit Kumar PoonMagar sold alcohol to a minor during a compliance check on Sept. 13. Detective Rusty Creamer with the Cobb County Police Department said the minor who purchased the six-pack of beer told PoonMagar she was born on Aug. 20, 1994, her actual birthdate. Cobb Water Rates Increase

You're paying 6 percent more for water and 2 percent more for sewer service as of Sunday.

The Cobb Board of Commissioners last year approved a rate increase on water and service from the Cobb County Water System that went into effect with the start of 2012. The increase of 6 percent for water and 2 percent for waste water actually is less than the county had projected when the commissioners passed a financial plan Aug. 28, 2007, according to the county's fact sheet on the rate increase. The increase was supposed to be 8 percent for water and 4 percent for waste water. But the water system's supplier, the Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority, didn't raise its prices as much as expected, and the water system slashed its expenses as part of the county budget cuts last year.
