Want to celebrate Mardi Gras in Cobb County? Enjoy festive food, music and family fun at Saturday's Marietta Mardi Gras 5K Run.
This week's Cobb, Douglas and Paulding Weekend & Community Spotlight features the 4th Annual Marietta Mardi Gras 5K Run on the Marietta Square. The event benefits the Junior League of Cobb-Marietta and it's community partners. The 5K run will begin Saturday at 8 a.m., with the 1K beginning at 8:45 a.m. and the Tot-Trot at 9 a.m. For the third year, the Junior League is teaming up with Shoes for the Cure for a shoe drive. All shoe donations are welcome - not just running shoes. There will be bins for drop-off available. Cost is $30 for adults and $15 for Tot-Trot. The first ever Relay for Life in the Smyrna-Vinings area is kicking off this weekend. Find out how you can participate and help fight cancer.
This week's Cobb, Douglas and Paulding Weekend & Community Spotlight features the Relay for Life Vinings-Smyrna Kickoff Party. The kickoff event will be held this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Hyatt Place Atlanta/Cobb Galleria. Learn how you and your family and friends can participate in the first ever Relay for Life in the Smyrna-Vinings community, and help support a good cause. Join the Lassiter High School community this weekend to support an injured high school student.
This week's Cobb, Douglas and Paulding Weekend & Community Spotlight features the Christopher Heitzman Benefit 5K Run. The event takes place Saturday morning at Lassiter High School, with proceeds to help pay for medical expenses for the injured graduate. Heitzman, who graduated from Lassiter last spring, was seriously injured in a car accident last July on Trickum Road that killed his classmate, Ryan Aschenbach, and injured another recent Lassiter graduate Tyler Seaman. Heitzman sustained a head injury and several broken bones, and will need more surgeries. The fundraiser has collected just under $40,000 from pre-registration, and is hoping to raise more money to help cover Heitzman's medical expenses. Pre-registration for the run is $20 …

This week's Cobb, Douglas and Paulding Weekend Spotlight features A Home for the Holidays in Paulding County. This event helps save the lives of homeless animals at the Dallas Animal Shelter. There will be a food drive to benefit shelter pets, Christmas goodies, crafts, a car show, and face painting. This week's Cobb, Douglas and Paulding Weekend & Community Spotlight features a holiday themed event in the North Cobb area. The 4th Annual Acworth Turkey Chase 5K Fun Run and 2K Walk will be held this Saturday in Historic Downtown Acworth (5K Fun Run at 9 a.m., 2K Walk at 9:15 a.m., and Little Pilgrim Trot at 10 a.m.). Participants of all ages and abilities can walk, jog or run. Get a head start on that New Year's resolution to shed a few pounds. If you register on the day of the race, the cost is $30 for the timed run, $20 for the untimed fun run (ages 13 and up) and $10 for the untimed fun run (ages 6-12 years old). Note: The City of Smyrna is holding a Veterans Day ceremony at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11, at Brinkley Park, in addition to the Veterans Day service held by The American Legion 160 at 11 a.m. outside of the Legion office on 160 Legion Drive.
