After spending about an hour and a half listening to testimony and arguments on Tuesday morning, the Cobb County Board of Commissioners voted to uphold the decisions by the county's License Review Board in two matters. The board voted unanimously to maintain a 30-day suspension levied on the Texaco Food Mart on Cobb Parkway after employee Sujit Kumar PoonMagar sold alcohol to a minor during a compliance check on Sept. 13. Detective Rusty Creamer with the Cobb County Police Department said the minor who purchased the six-pack of beer told PoonMagar she was born on Aug. 20, 1994, her actual birthdate. The sale at the Shell Food Mart on Barrett Parkway was caught during a compliance check.
A Kennesaw business lost its alcohol license for 10 days after being caught selling alcohol to a minor. Sgt. Dana Pierce, the Cobb County Police Department's public information officer, said that an alcohol compliance check was performed at the Sam's Mart Shell on April 5, during which sales clerk Huseyin Erikli sold a 12-pack of beer to an underage volunteer. Erikli was issued citations for the sale to an underage and for not having a valid alcohol permit. The business' licensee, Ersin Balam, was given a citation for allowing an employee to work without a valid alcohol permit. The business' alcohol license was suspended for 10 days. The Cobb County Police Department conducted an alcohol compliance check Thursday.
The Shell Food Mart in Kennesaw received three citations for selling alcohol to a minor during an alcohol compliance check conducted by Cobb police Thursday. The business, located at 465 Ernest Barrett Pkwy., was the only one of six establishments that failed the check and sold alcohol to an underage volunteer. The following businesses passed the compliance check: Jimmy Macs, 3205 Canton Road in Marietta. Sportsline Grill, 2359 Windy Hill Road in Marietta. Folia Brazilian Steakhouse, 1360 Powers Ferry Road in Atlanta. Barrett Exxon Food Mart, 550 Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw. Chicago Pizza, 3405 George Busbee Parkway in Kennesaw. I would think the Cobb Police and Kennesaw/Acworth Police would check out the Chevron on the corner of Jim Owens and Cobb Parkway. They are known to sell to under age persons on a daily basies. The video poker pays well too.   more ›
