Some bold pronouncements on what 2012 will bring, from Cobb County to the White House and around the world.
All right. Here it is the New Year already. Lots of folks are sitting down making resolutions like losing weight, getting organized, blah, blah, blah. Been there. Done that. Didn't even want the T-shirt. While keeping resolutions is not really one of my strong points, I AM pretty good at prognosticating. So I'm going to give it a try. And just to hold me accountable, I'd like for one of you to hold on to these predictions. I'll buy one of you a steak at the end of the year to go back over them. First prediction: Nearly 100 percent of New Year's resolutions will NOT be kept. How's that for good? At least two separate high schools in East Cobb will win state championships in 2012. The local and state economy will stumble along with no …

Sunday sales go into effect in Kennesaw on New Year's Day.
I'll shortly be turning off my computer to prepare for tonight's festivities, which, for me, will include pot roast, cranberry and champagne cocktails with friends and the perfect red dress to ring in 2012. But before I do, I'd like to wish everyone a safe and happy New Year. Please remember to drink responsibly. If you have an iPhone or Android, download the Drive Sober Georgia app for information about finding free rides tonight. If you want to keep the festivities going through tomorrow, remember that Sunday sales go into effect in Kennesaw starting New Year's Day between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. Kennesaw voters passed the measure allowing the sale of alcohol on Sundays during the Nov. 8 elections, joining many other …

Each week, we feature great homes for sale in Kennesaw, Acworth and Cartersville.
For homebuyers, 2012 will be a bonanza of opportunities to purchase the home of their dreams. Since the real estate market is still sluggish, builders are offering tons of custom options and upgrades potential buyers want. The most popular upgrades include stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, lighting fixtures and hardwood floors. Being able to incorporate these options into a newly constructed home is appealing to a homebuyer and gives the builder a definite edge over "finished homes." Take a look at the following new homes offering many of these sought-after upgrades. Click through the image gallery to preview the featured homes. Download this app if alcohol will be part of your New Year's Eve.
Scared you’re going to get behind the wheel a little buzzed (or completely plastered) on New Years? There’s an app for that. The Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety has developed an app for drivers to download that provides information about free rides and drinking and driving. The app is available for Androids and iPhones at this link or here for a simulation. Teaching kids to “drink responsibly” is a myth because studies show that teens who drank with adults were more likely to drink in all situations, according to a press release from Cobb County authorities. Two to three times more people died in alcohol-related vehicle crashes over the winter holiday compared to the rest of the year, according to the National Institute on …
