As the holiday approaches, I can't help but be thankful for the two special Valentines in my life.
Leizel sits on her father's lap, her brown eyes looking into his. She sticks out her tongue and makes a razzing sound, followed by a raspy squeal we have dubbed "the Velociraptor." Balde laughs, then gently presses his forehead against hers. In moments like these, when they are completely lost in each other, their resemblance is even more apparent. Her eyes and ears, her nose, her mouth, and even the distinct shape of her head (rounded in the front with the concave "Avila dip" near the back) are carbon copies of her father's features. Several weeks ago, we went out for some homemade menudo, a Mexican soup made with red chilis, beef tripe and hominy.
