Kennesaw has been honored nationally for its health and wellness initiatives. According to city spokeswoman Pam Davis, the National League of Cities recently awarded Kennesaw nine medals for improving access to healthy, affordable food and increasing opportunities for physical activity. Jeff Duckett will serve on the Small Cities Council.
Kennesaw Councilmember Jeff Duckett has accepted an appointment as a member of the National League of Cities (NLC) Small Cities Council for 2013. The council is made up of NLC member cities that have a population of less than 50,000. Members work to insure that the interests of small communities are reflected in NLC’s overall policies. Kennesaw Councilmember Tim Killingsworth has accepted an appointment as a member of the National League of Cities University Communities Council for 2013. Members of the council discuss problems and opportunities involving economic development, transportation, housing and neighborhood concerns, and sustainability which are unique to university communities. Kennesaw Councilmember Bruce Jenkins has accepted an appointment as a member of the National League of Cities (NLC) Council on Youth, Education and Families for 2013. The Council includes local elected officials as well as national policy experts and youth leaders from large and small cities and state municipal leagues. The Council’s role is to oversee and support the work of the NLC’s Institute for Youth, Education and Families (YEF). This Committee has the lead responsibility for developing NLC federal policy positions on issues involving housing, community and economic development, land use, recreation and parks, historic preservation, and international competitiveness.
