The race is the culmination of Kilometer Kids, an 11-week program designed to promote healthy and active lifestyles among children between the ages of 5 and 13 years old.

No need to pull out your blanket and outdoor chairs on Saturday, Kennesaw. The start of the city's free outdoor movie series at Swift-Cantrell Park has been postponed. "Due to the inclement weather forecast on Saturday, May 4, the City of Kennesaw's Outdoor Movie presentation of Disney/Pixar's Brave and the Backyard Campout have been postponed," according to a post on the Kennesaw Parks & Recreation Facebook page. "Both events will be rescheduled. A new date will be announced soon." City releases details of summer entertainment plans.
The city of Kennesaw is serving up a double feature of summer entertainment on Saturday, June 1 with water-themed activities followed by the second free outdoor movie in the summer series at Swift-Cantrell Park. The excitement begins at 6 p.m., as the sun-soaked "shores" of the park become a watery playground of splishing, splashing, slipping and sliding fun. Activities will feature both free and pay-to-play inflatable slides, field games and attractions. After the sun goes down, set sail for a fun-filled pirate adventure with a screening of The Pirates! Band of Misfits. The 2012 stop-motion animated adventure comedy follows the Pirate Captain and his crew of amateur pirates as they attempt to win the Pirate of the Year competition. The …

The City of Kennesaw along with Boy Scout Troop 002 invites local families to participate in an overnight camping experience at Swift-Cantrell Park on Saturday, May 4. The event is hosted in support of the National Wildlife Federation’s “Be Out There” campaign, an annual effort encouraging children and families to experience the outdoors and connect with nature. The water in Swift-Cantrell Park will be shut off today to allow for the installation of a new water line. The installation will affect the park's restrooms and water fountains.

The City of Kennesaw announces its 2013 Outdoor Movie Series of free, family-friendly flicks at Swift-Cantrell Park. The lineup includes Disney/Pixar’s Brave on Saturday, May 4; The Pirates! Band of Misfits on Saturday, June 1; and Hotel Transylvania on Saturday, October 12. All movies will start at dark. Children’s activities featuring both free and pay-to-play inflatables, giveaways and outdoor fun are offered beginning at 6 pm (5 p.m. on October 12). Race season is approaching in Kennesaw, and registration for the 4th Annual Swift-Cantrell Classic 5K is now open. The 3.1-mile road race, which was started to help the city raise money for the capital improvements at Swift-Cantrell Park without burdening taxpayers, kicks off the Kennesaw Grand Prix series. The series runs from May 11 until Dec. 14, and includes the Dream Dash 5K in June, the Run for Wounded Heros in August, the Great Locomotive Race 5K in September, the Garden Gallop in November and the Faith Cline Elf Trot 5K in December. Scheduled for May 11 in downtown Kennesaw, the Swift-Cantrell Classic 5K will feature a 1-mile fun run and trot as well as the 5K race. Proceeds benefit the Swift-Cantrell Foundation. For more …

Kennesaw reached a milestone this morning in its years-long quest to build a state-of-the-art skatepark when area leaders and skateboarding enthusiasts gathered at Swift-Cantrell Park for the groundbreaking of the first phase of the 40,000-square-foot park. "This is just an incredible day," Mayor Mark Mathews told the crowd. "... The skatepark ... started as a concept in '06 (and has) taken many different angles, many different avenues, many different designs. Today, seven years later, we're ready to start construction."
