The race is the culmination of Kilometer Kids, an 11-week program designed to promote healthy and active lifestyles among children between the ages of 5 and 13 years old.

City releases details of summer entertainment plans.
The city of Kennesaw is serving up a double feature of summer entertainment on Saturday, June 1 with water-themed activities followed by the second free outdoor movie in the summer series at Swift-Cantrell Park. The excitement begins at 6 p.m., as the sun-soaked "shores" of the park become a watery playground of splishing, splashing, slipping and sliding fun. Activities will feature both free and pay-to-play inflatable slides, field games and attractions. After the sun goes down, set sail for a fun-filled pirate adventure with a screening of The Pirates! Race season is approaching in Kennesaw, and registration for the 4th Annual Swift-Cantrell Classic 5K is now open. The 3.1-mile road race, which was started to help the city raise money for the capital improvements at Swift-Cantrell Park without burdening taxpayers, kicks off the Kennesaw Grand Prix series. The series runs from May 11 until Dec. 14, and includes the Dream Dash 5K in June, the Run for Wounded Heros in August, the Great Locomotive Race 5K in September, the Garden Gallop in November and the Faith Cline Elf Trot 5K in December. Kennesaw reached a milestone this morning in its years-long quest to build a state-of-the-art skatepark when area leaders and skateboarding enthusiasts gathered at Swift-Cantrell Park for the groundbreaking of the first phase of the 40,000-square-foot park. "This is just an incredible day," Mayor Mark Mathews told the crowd. "...
